After recount, new Pineville Mayor sworn-in

UPDATE: The City of Pineville, W.Va. has a new mayor. 

Following a recount of votes on Thursday afternoon, Mike Kodak was sworn-in as the new leader. The re-count came after an election in which there was a nine vote difference between Kodak and another candidate, Jason Smith. 

The vote tally did not change following Thursday’s re-count. Kodak will start work on July 1, 2018. 

PINEVILLE, W.Va. (WVVA) There is a new man in charge at Pineville Town Hall.

Wyoming East Athletic Dir. and Teacher Mike Kodak will take the place of Linda Phillips on July 1, 2018. Phillips was appointed in July of 2017 to fill the seat of Tim Ellison. 

Kodak beat his challenger Jason Smith by only nine votes 112-103.

"I appreciate the support and hope that I can continue to make Pineville a great place," said Kodak after his win Tuesday. 

Kodak graduated from Wyoming East in 2004 and earned a degree in Secondary Education from Concord University in 2008. He currently teaches History and is a member of the Pineville Vol. Fire Dept.

Kodak said this is his first time serving in public office. During his time as mayor, he hopes to improve the parks, get the pool back open, and continue to promote the Hatfield & McCoy trail system.
