Princeton’s bats came alive in key moments on Friday night, as they earned a 4-1 victory over Bristol.
In the first four innings, the Rays struggled to get a runner on base, managing only one hit. Pirates starting pitcher Colin Selby also struck out six batters.
But, after a pitching change, Princeton tallied two RBIs in the bottom of the fifth to take a slight lead. Wander Franco hit a grounder off the pitcher to drive home the first run. Grant Witherspoon’s single to right field provided the second.
In the seventh, another pitching change and a hit batter allowed Carlos Vargas to double home two more runs.
The two teams will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
