Firefighters from all over the area brought the heat, and the fire hoses, to Alderson yesterday. It was the 30th annual Fireman’s Rodeo where departments competed in challenges related to fighting fire.
Rick Honaker, a Alderson Fireman and Fireman’s Rodeo coordinator said, he remembers coming to the event as a child and now he’s just happy to give back to the community.
The event was complete with concessions, stands for the audience and plenty of water. The fire department with the fastest time in each event won a trophy, a little money and of course, bragging rights. No fire team took the challenge lightly and participants were quickly drenched.
The rodeo was the beginning of a week of Independence Day events in Alderson including a grand parade and fireworks display on Wednesday.
