The State Fair of West Virginia features agriculture, which may make you think of big wide open spaces, but some master gardeners for the WVU Extension Service say options like raised beds and low-tunnels allow growers.
Extension Master Gardner Willa Izzo says raised beds are the perfect solution to small space. She says you can make them any size and their yield is worth it. She says four tomato plants can feed a family of four. If tomatoes aren’t your thing she says peppers are high yielding too. “Well peppers you know they’re very productive. And if your soil is good and you fertilize a bit and take good care of them you’ll have enough food for your family, which is wonderful raising your own food.”
