Former Rich Creek police chief jailed on rape, abduction charges

(WVVA) A Giles County man was arrested on Monday on charges of rape and abduction.

Kevin Matthew Buckland, 46, of Rich Creek, VA is currently being held in New River Valley Regional Jail.

According to the Virginia State Police, “Buckland engaged in a non-consensual sexual act with a female victim in June 2018.”  The abduction charge stems from a separate incident. Buckland reportedly detained a woman against her will in August 2018.

According to The Roanoke Times, Buckland served as police chief of Rich Creek from 2003-2006. He also previously worked at the Giles County Sheriff’s Office, Narrows Police Department and Radford Police Department.
