Officers raise money for charity through ‘No Shave November’

BECKLEY & FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) A rather hairy situation is about to unfold in Beckley and Fayette County.

Both the Beckley Police Dept. and Fayette County Sheriff’s Dept. will be participating in ‘No Shave November.’ But don’t worry, it’s all for a good cause.

To participate, Beckley Police officers will be donating $25 each to the West Virginia Kids Cancer Crusaders. And in an effort to raise even more funds, Chief Deputy J.R. Corey said the public will be able to go online and vote for their favorite beard. He said it costs one dollar a vote and people can vote as many times as they would like. All proceeds will go to kids battling cancer. (See Beckley PD Facebook page for link)

“Don’t fear the beard. If you see an officer and he looks scraggly, we’re relaxing the grooming for a really good cause,” said Chief Deputy Corey.

In Fayette County, deputies will be raising money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Deputies must pay $30 a person to participate.
