Southern W.Va. city considers building ice skating rink

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) City council members are floating the idea of an ice skating rink in Beckley.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, Councilman Kevin Price said he was in talks with a Canadian outfitter to possibly build not only a rink but a splash pad next to New River Park Pool.

Parks and Rec Dir. Leslie Baker pointed Friday to a few key considerations that need to be make moving forward, among them, providing a place to rent skates.

“The rink itself is not that expensive. It’s the other things that go with it. We have to make sure the weather cooperates and of course we have to have an attendant.”

Baker said she would also like to continue moving forward on a Pickle Ball Court and 18-hole Frisbee at the Black Knight Country Club.
