PETERSTOWN, WV (WVVA) It’s been a long process, but the students and staff of Peterstown Elementary and Middle Schools will have a new home in the next few couple years. On Monday, the School Building Authority awarded Monroe County Schools $21.1 Million to build a new elementary and middle school.
Superintendent Joetta Basile says this has been a five year process in trying to get the funds for the new school. The School Building Authority looks for several criteria that make schools deserving of these grants. The current condition of Petersburg Elementary and Middle Schools met those requirements. The current school has poor heating and air conditioning along with several other problems.
But students and administrators are excited about the new facility. The new school will offer state of the art classrooms such as updated science and computer labs.
There’s no timeline for when the school will be built, but Basile hopes to break ground by late spring.
