MERCER COUNTY, WV (WVVA) It took a jury less than half an hour to convict a man of sexual assault against a three-year-old.
The two-day trial against Henry Vincent Bennett, 26, of Bluefield, WV, ended Thursday.
According to prosecuting attorney George Sitler, the allegations first came to light in February 2018 when the victim “made incriminating disclosures to family members and a social worker.”
Bennett was convicted on six felony counts of first degree sexual assault and first degree sexual abuse.
“I want to thank Detectives Brad Fox and Kenneth Adams of the Bluefield Police Department for their hard work on this case, as well as the staff at Child Protect and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Adam Wolfe for their work in preparing this case for trial.”
Bennett’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 26, 2019.
It was day one for the trial of a man facing numerous abuse charges.
Henry Vincent Bennett is facing sexual assault in the first degree and sexual abuse, for incidents that occurred with a child.
Bennett appeared in front of Judge Derek Swope this afternoon.
The incidents surrounding the charges are believed to had been reported late last year.
The Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office rested their case around 4 p.m.
The trial will continue on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
