Sheriff gives update on Justin Dye investigation

TAZEWELL COUNTY (WVVA) Sheriff Brian Hieatt with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office announced during tonight’s school board meeting the findings of the investigation into the death of Richlands student Justin Dye. He stated during the investigation, all parties cooperated. State police, Richlands High School, and Richlands Police Department all played a part in the investigation.

Hieatt said that there is no findings of any incidents that were not already reported. There is one piece of evidence still being processed by state police, according to the Sheriff. At this time, there is no one strong factor that could be identified to cause this tragic incident.

Hieatt said there were multiple things happening in Justin’s life that may have contributed to his death.

Tazewell County Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Dennis said that if needed, the Commonwealth’s Attorney Office will prosecute. He said that people who bully, especially on social media, should be held accountable.
