Former school counselor pleads guilty to mail fraud

A former guidance counselor at Greenbrier West High School has pleaded guilty to mail fraud.

Mellissa Krystynak was a counselor from 2011 to 2017. Officials say she used her position to access the school’s grading programs to inflate at least 34 of her daughter’s grades.

Her daughter applied for and received more than ten different college scholarships thanks to those fraudulent report cards and transcripts.

Krystynak faces up to twenty years in prison and a $250,000 fine. She will be sentenced in May.
