Oak Hill man sentenced for attempted murder

(WVVA) An 18-year-old man will spend 12 to 16 years in prison shooting at a vehicle with two people inside.

Kenneth A. Batey, Jr. of Oak Hill was convicted in March on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of wanton endangerment.

According to Prosecuting Attorney Larry E. Harrah, III, the incident took place on December 4, 2018. Batey was walking along Minden Road when he ”made an obscene gesture” to a man and woman riding by in a vehicle. When the victims tried to turn around in a driveway, Batey fired six shots at them.

No one was hurt.

Batey ran to a nearby coffee shop where he was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered.

The Oak Hill Police Dept. handled the investigation.
