Memorial for Beckley fallen officers nearly complete

(RALEIGH COUNTY) The Beckley Police Department’s new home is nearly complete, and along with it a display to honor three of its officers who were killed in the line of duty.

“Of course that’s Det. Charles E.Smith II, Sgt. David L. Lilly, and Ptl. Carl D. Buckland, Deputy Chief J.R. Corey of the Beckley Police Department said.

The memorial should be completed in time for the new headquarter’s summer’s grand opening.

“You can tell the majority of it is done. We have the base, we have the flag pole we have the walls, and right now we’re in the process of having the centerpiece made,” Corey said.

That centerpiece will be a statue of a lion.

“This is a place that will be their home. It’s here it’s a place where friends, and family can come and memorialize and reflect on their memory. It’s important for us as a department and for us as a community to remember the sacrifices these men have made,” Corey revealed.

The police department is still accepting donations. Check out Beckley Police Department Facebook website.
