Making way for Intuit, Commerce Street in Bluefield

The biggest news to Intuit’s pending arrival is finally taking shape in the City of Bluefield.

The hub will have a customer success center that is expected to bring between 200-500 jobs and an innovation lab to support entrepreneurs, small businesses and financial literacy.

The Silicon Valley-based company is going to establish its prosperity hub in the downtown area, setting up a temporary location for it’s customer success center on Commerce Street.

“It’s at the former AAA center,” said Jim Spencer, Community and Economic Development Director for the City of Bluefield. “Intuit will need 200-500 parking spots for employees, however, we’re looking at 750 parking spaces to include existing businesses.”

The city is expanding parking within a half-mile of Commerce Street, directly beside the city dog park.

“We’re removing the grass and all the organic material,” said Kerry Stauffer, Engineering Services Director for the City of Bluefield. “We should have over 100 parking spaces here.”

Phase 2 of the parking expansion, currently, doesn’t involve moving the city dog park.

“Nothing is going to happen right now with the dog park area,” said Stauffer. “We might have to expand the downtown area later for more parking spaces.”

But the question on everybody’s mind is how soon Intuit will be opening up their doors in Bluefield for jobs.

“Intuit is in control of that,” said Spencer. “Hopefully soon.”

Spencer says the innovation lab for entrepreneurs is expected to set up in a permanent downtown location, inside of the Summit Bank building, located off 500 Federal Street.
