UPDATE: Man charged with murder of Lewisburg teen

(WVVA) The U.S. Marshals Service arrested a man in the shooting death of a Lewisburg teen.

Edward Alexander Smith-Allen was picked up in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday. He is charged with the first-degree murder of 17-year-old Alaisia M. Smith.

Smith-Allen is awaiting extradition back to West Virginia.

The shooting took place on Friday at Dories Miller Park. Alaisia was on life support for several days before her death.


(Lewisburg) The identity of the juvenile shot in Lewisburg has been released.

Alaisia Smith, 17, was shot on Friday in Dorie Miller Park. She is currently on life support at a hospital in Charleston.

Alaisia played basketball and ran track for Greenbrier East. Her dad, Walter Thomas Smith, said she also enjoys kayaking, church and spending time with her family.

(Lewisburg) Witnesses describe the shooting of a Greenbrier East High School student at Dorie Miller Park on Friday as “accidental”.

According to the criminal complaint, several people including the witness and the suspect were sitting in a parked car at Dorie Miller Park on Friday evening. Edward Alexander Smith-Allen was pointing a gun at people in the car. Witnesses say he was “playing” with the gun. One witness said the pointing of the gun made them so uncomfortable they left the car. The gun was loaded. While pointing the gun at the victim Edward Alexander Smith-Allen pulled the trigger. All of the witnesses in the car described the shooting as “accidental”.

According to Lewisburg Police Chief Chris Teubert, Edward Alexander Smith-Allen turned himself in to Sgt. D.B. Eggleston at the Lewisburg Police Department on Saturday at 6:30 PM. He was arraigned in the Greenbrier County Magistrate Court for the warrant of Wanton Endangerment with a Firearm. He was released on a $5,000 bond.
