Anti-MVP stakeholders hold demonstration

(Hinton) Demonstrators gathered at the Summers County Courthouse in response to the shareholders meeting happening for EQM Midstream Partners in Pittsburgh.

Demonstrators used stakes to illustrate their concerns about the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Neal Laferriere owns a farm adjacent to the pipeline. He said, “My farm is at stake. My family’s livelihood is at stake. My ability to have a future for my children and my grandchildren on our property is at stake.”

Pipeline explosions in other parts of Appalachia have those with property near the MVP Pipeline on high alert. They say building a pipeline on karst- land made of limestone and filled with sinkholes- lends itself to a pipeline rupture.
