The Miners entered the night a full 8.5 games back of the Champion City Kings in the Prospect League East Division.
The visitors jumped on the board first, but West Virginia responded in the bottom half of the inning. Michael Pineiro and Ross Mulhall each drove in a run, giving the Miners a 2-1 lead.
Clay Mehlbauer extended the advantage with a 2-RBI single in the second inning. The Kings threatened that advantage by plating a pair in the third inning.
Mulhall set the tone for rest of the game with another RBI in the bottom of the third.
The Miners tripled up the Kings in the end, 9-3.
The series will continue on Friday night at 6:35 p.m.
