Richlands’ softball pitcher, Mac Osborne, has committed to Virginia Tech, living out one of her childhood dreams.
“We went to games when I was little and I just fell in love with how the girls played. I always wanted to be [a Hokie],” Osborne said.
While becoming a Hokie had been a life-long dream of Osborne’s, the decision to commit to Virginia Tech was just as exciting a choice for her high school coach, Ronnie Davis.
“He actually wanted me to go to Virginia Tech,” Osborne said. “We was like, ‘Go Hokies! Pick that one!'”
“I’m just thankful that coach Pete D’Amour and the rest of the Virginia Tech staff sees the same thing that we see in Mac,” Davis said.
Richlands and Blacksburg are separated by 98 miles, but according to coach Davis, the distance won’t matter to Lady Blues fans once Osborne steps into the circle at Virginia Tech.
“Virginia Tech softball just enlisted — not just Mac — but a lot more fans now that she’s going to play there,” Davis said.
Fortunately for Richlands, Osborne still has one high school season left and she plans on using the opportunity to grow before heading to the next level.
“This senior year I’m gonna focus on every aspect of the game and trying to get better both ways,” Osborne said.
