Rays even up Mercer Cup Series

BLUEFIELD — The 2019 Mercer Cup Series is all even at four games apiece after a 12-5 Princeton victory on Friday night.

Both teams traded blows in the first inning. The Rays scored a pair of runs on a Nick Schnell single, followed by a throwing error and an RBI groundout.

Bluefield responded with a Muguel Hiraldo RBI double and a Spencer Horwitz RBI groundout.

Jelfry Marte’s sac fly gave the visitors back their edge in the third inning, 3-2. And from there, it was all Rays.

They tacked on five runs in the fifth, including an Angelo Armenta home run. Four more came across in the ninth for insurance, the Princeton rolled to victory.

Diego Infante led all batters with 4 RBIs on the evening.

The Mercer Cup Series is now tied 4-4 heading into Saturday night’s game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Baby Jay will be flying in the game ball at 6:15, and a fireworks display will follow the conclusion of the contest.
