Princeton hangs on for pivotal Mercer Cup victory

BLUEFIELD — There was no shortage of scoring at Bowen Field on Saturday night, as the Princeton Rays moved to within one victory of clinching the 2019 Mercer Cup.

The two teams combined for 16 runs in the first three innings, as the Rays held a 10-6 lead. The Jays would mount a comeback, but would ultimately fall just short, 11-10.

Princeton’s Gionti Turner and Bluefield’s PK Morris each had three RBIs on the night to lead their clubs.

The Jays travel to Bristol, while the Rays head to Johnson City on Sunday. The two teams will meet again in Mercer Cup action on Wednesday, August 21.
