Today looks to be the wettest day out of the week, as scattered showers and storms will be around the viewing area for most of the day with a few breaks in between. Every county in our viewing area is under at least a marginal risk for severe weather today. There is a marginal risk [1/5] of severe weather for our northern counties, and a slight risk [2/5] of severe weather for our southern counties.
There is also a slight risk [2/4] for excessive rainfall across most of our viewing area. With a marginal risk [1/4] of excessive rainfall for our eastern counties.
Heavy rainfall, which can produce flooding, and gusty winds still remain the main threats for today.
So lets timetable everything out today. Through the early morning hours we will stay mostly dry, with clouds still rolling into our region. Then as we get into around the 8 to 9 am morning hours, we start seeing scattered showers and storms make an appearance along a warm front. Expect morning storms to produce some heavy rainfall, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time on your commute and don’t try to drive through torrential rainfall if you aren’t comfortable.
After the warm front passes by, we will become mostly clear by lunch time, with breaks in the clouds producing some sunshine across the region. Now, there may still be some isolated showers and storms around by lunch, but we will mainly be clear.
Then in the early afternoon, around 3 pm, we will begin to see scattered showers and storms make an appearance again. Showers and storms this afternoon will also have the potential to produce some heavy rainfall. However, these storms will also have the potential to produce some very strong winds and large hail as well. Expect rounds of scattered showers and possible strong storms to last until sunset. Can’t rule out some showers and storms as we go into tonight. The threat of a tornado is very low, however, rotation could be possible with these storms.
After today, we should have more isolated showers and storms Wednesday and then begin drying out by Thursday.
Stay safe and weather aware today everybody.
