Jays, Rays fall on the eve of final Mercer Cup series

MERCER COUNTY — Both area Appalachian League teams suffered defeats on Tuesday night.

Bristol plated six runs before Bluefield even had a chance to bat. Felipe Castaneda lasted just that first inning on the mound for the Jays, allowing all six tallies on seven hits.

Davis Schneider and Scotty Bradley each had a pair of hits for the home team, but they failed to score in a 10-0 loss.

In Princeton, the Rays were looking for a sweep of the Twins.

The Rays trailed four times throughout the game, tying it back up in each instance. The game went well into extra innings, but Anthony Prato’s groundball, which forced a throwing error allowed two runs to score in the eleventh.

Elizabethton would hold on to win, 7-6. Diego Infante had three hits and a pair of RBIs in the defeat.

Princeton will host Bluefield for the final two games of the 2019 Mercer Cup beginning Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
