(MERCER COUNTY) Child Protect of Mercer County hosted an open house Friday. The Child Advocacy Center which serves children and in some cases adults that are victims of abuse allowed the community to take tours of the center, enjoy activities including a bounce house for kids, food, and more.
The center performs forensic interview services, free trauma therapy, free forensic medical evaluations and more. The medical exam room is one out of three in the state of West Virginia.
Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney, George Sitler, Mercer County Sheriff, Tommy Bailey, and Mercer County Commissioner, Greg Puckett were also involved in today’s event taking turns in the dunk tank. Executive Director, Shiloh Woodard said she hopes that the event clears the air about misconceptions some may have about the organization.
“Child Protect is so much more then where we assist law enforcement and other local entities with child abuse investigations. We also maintain a local food pantry and clothing closet on site. We offer support groups and free counseling onsite no only to children but also adults here in Mercer County. We just want to get the word out about all of services and how we will expand in the future too,” Woodard said.
One expansion will include an off-site visitor center.
