September 11 to be designated First Responders Day in Virginia

Richmond, Va (WVVA) – Virginia has designated Wednesday, September 11, 2019, and every following year on Sept 11, as First Responders Day.

Virginia House Resolution 646 was introduced by Delegate Michael P Mullin, D-Newport News, of the Virginia General Assembly. It established September 11 as the day to recognize and remember first responders in the commonwealth, according to the revolution,”…for their courage and dedication to protect and aid the public during emergencies as both professional and volunteer first responders.

he resolution lists law enforcement officers, 911 dispatchers, emergency management professionals, professional and volunteer emergency medical services personnel, professional and volunteer firefighters, search and rescue teams, rescue pilots and divers, the Virginia National Guard, and member of other organizations in the public safety sector.

Public safety organization, associations, and agencies that work with first responders are encouraged to observe the day of recognition and remembrance.
