Raleigh County couple arrested for child abuse

FAIRDALE, W.Va. (WVVA) A couple was taken into custody on Friday for beating a child with a belt.

Both Sarah Johnson and Thomas Mills were charged with Child Abuse resulting in Injury after deputies were called to respond to a domestic situation at the home on Friday.

The girl had several welts across her arms and legs, telling police that Johnson had been striking her with a belt. She stated in the complaint she was struck several times on the back, legs, arms, and head.

The complaint also said the girl had several welts, bruising, and circle marks from the pattern of the belt on her body. She said the altercation started over an argument over her with school.

The victim also stated that Johnson’s boyfriend, Thomas Mills, struck her several times with the belt causing injury.

Both Johnson and Mills are being held in Southern Regional Jail (SRJ) on a more than $10,000 bond.
