Local barbershop honors Veterans with free haircuts all weekend

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA)-  The Kilted Barber Shop in Beckley is honoring Veterans for their service by offering them free haircuts this weekend. Veterans from the Beckley VA Medical Center received royal treatment.

“I feel good, I feel real good. My wife will like me a lot better now,” Veteran, Michael Brown.

“I think it’s wonderful, I think we deserve to be spoiled sometimes. I like being able to get out. It makes me feel refreshed and I feel joyous for coming,” Veteran, Richard Rotenberry said.

“It’s a wonderful service that tara and her crew offer here at the kilted barber. We are always treated like kings here so the men always enjoy coming here. I can’t ask for a nicer crew and they just appreciate the haircuts, the generosity of the ladies here at the shop,”  Therapist Beckley VA Medical Center, Robert Estepp said.

Owner, Tara Barlow said it’s become a tradition to give back to those who have served our country.

“My father was in Vietnam, 1st Cavalry and growing up that was always apart of our household that he had served. Really from the beginning of our country, the American Revolution I’ve always had someone in my family that was in the service,” the Kilted Barber owner explained.

Beckley va medical center makes sure to get the vets out on occasion.

“We like to take our Veterans out during warm weather. They like to go fishing. During special holidays we will go to lunches and dinners. We do baseball games, basketball, football. Basically they tell us where they want to go and we try to accommodate. We try to go places that they want to go and do things that they want to do,” Robert Estepp added.

After receiving their haircuts, the Veterans enjoyed a night at the movies to watch Midway. Based off of events from World War II during the Battle of Midway in June 1942.

Kilted Barber Shop will also be giving out free haircuts for Veterans and active duty service members Sunday, from 11 am to 3 pm and on Monday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
