BLUEFIELD, W.Va (WVVA) — As of Monday, Bluefield State women’s basketball’s official record is 1-0. But, they’re feeling better than that.
The Lady Blues took down rival Bluefield College in an exhibition last week, 66-56. The team added another win over Cheyney on Saturday. The young squad, led by head coach Ryan Bailey, is finding its footing thanks to the early-season victories.
It hasn’t all been easy, however. With Mountain East power, Concord, coming to Bluefield on Tuesday, the tasks will only get tougher.
“We’ve felt really good,” said sophomore forward Kylah Webb. “We’ve been having some slow practices, but we’re pushing through and playing as a team to just pull through and get the win.”
“They understand who Concord is,” added Bailey. “They understand how tough it’s going to be. They understand that Concord is hungry. It’s been a while since Bluefield State has knocked them off — so they would like to have that opportunity tomorrow evening.”
The Lady Blues last took down Concord in 2015. They’ll get another shot on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The men will follow at 8 p.m.
