Buccaneers recognized by City of Bluefield, undefeated season

BLUEFIELD, W.V. (WVVA)- The 2019 Bluefield Middle School Buccaneers Football Team was honored today for a perfect season.

The City of Bluefield recognized the players and coaches during the Board of Directors meeting.

The Buccaneers finished their season 8-0, undefeated.

“We had a rough season last year so they wanted to make a statement,” said Doug Miller, Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator. “The players worked hard in the offseason, listened to the coaches and performed well in class.”

“That means you’re a student first, and then you get to play football,” said R.J. Hairston, student and football player for Buccaneers.

The team dedicated their season to “Lil” Tony Webster Jr., who wore jersey number five.

Webster died in January and was a student and football player at Bluefield High School
