WELCH, W.Va (WVVA) Two local teams are still in the hunt for a state championship. But one football player in McDowell County is prepping himself for the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl in Texas.
Mount View's Liam Fultineer has been selected to participate, after being nominated by Appalachian Prep Combine. Fultineer says when he received the call, there were lots of cheers and tears of joy with his younger brother and mom.
He says the recruiting process hasn't went the way he'd hope, but sees the bowl game as a chance to show coaches he can play at the next level. However, Fultineer has received an offer by Morgan State, but would like to see what other opportunities arise from this experience.
But no matter the outcome, he says he can use his own experience to be a role model to younger athletes wishing to pursue football. "If you want to pursue football, you're going to have to work for it," says Fultineer.
"You just can't come into practice to do what you want to do and expect to get somewhere," says Fultineer. He says to be really show how good you are, you need to be consistently working, no matter the day or time.
He will travel to Dallas for the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl that is on December 16 at 12 p.m.
