BLUEFIELD, W.Va.(WVVA)- Last month, The Wade Center shared a need for community donations to keep it's doors from closing on Christmas Day. We've learned the center has received about $6,000 in donations from its 'A Thankful Heart' Open House event last month, which introduced the community to the kids in the after-school program.
Executive Director Kourtney Neal says the funds will help the center continue to operate a bit longer because the center has experienced a decrease in donations. She says the team is grateful for the community's help, but due to the center being a non-profit organization, their continued support is needed to survive.
"Any kinds of monetary donations or help towards our backpack program is going to make a big difference for us," said Neal. "It's going to allow us to use those funds towards the program or pay for items to put back into the program."
Neal says it costs the center about $25,000 a month to operate both the after-school program and the facility.
