BLUEFIELD, VA (WVVA) -- The Town of Bluefield held its December meeting Tuesday night. On the agenda - a vote on becoming a 'Second Amendment Sanctuary.'

60 cities and counties across the Commonwealth have passed similar resolutions in response to legislation proposed by the General Assembly.

Bluefield, Virginia added themselves to that list, voting unanimously to approve their own version of a Second Amendment Sanctuary resolution.

This comes just one week after Tazewell County passed two similar proclamations. Officials in Bluefield say, however, it's important that the town has its own.

"It shows that we're unified with the county," said Councilman Chuck Presley.

"Our citizens, when they heard about the proposed legislation; there was an outcry," Councilman Ron Holt said. "They asked us, their elected officials, 'hey, what can you do about this?'"

WVVA will continue to monitor this situation for additional updates.
