TAZEWELL, VA (WVVA) -- Tazewell residents will be "freezin' for a reason" Saturday.
40 people have pledged $50+ to jump into Lincolnshire Lake on Saturday as part of Tazewell Today's inaugural Polar Plunge.
"We were trying to come up with an event to do in the middle of winter," said Director of Tazewell Today, Amanda Hoops. "We came up with the Polar Plunge."
And it's all for a good cause -- Tazewell Today chose to partner with the Clinch Valley Community Action - Family Crisis Services. The money raised through the Polar Plunge will directly support the non-profit's mission of providing support and advocacy services to domestic violence and sexual assault victims and their families.
"They operate solely on charitable contributions and fundraisers so it's really important that we promote awareness for the services they offer," said Hoops. "Any fundraising efforts we can get going in the community, we try to pitch in."
The plunge will take place Saturday, January 18th at 2 p.m. at Lincolnshire Park in Tazewell. There will be a bonfire for spectators, a DJ, a hot dog vendor, and hot chocolate for sale.
Anyone wishing to participate can make their $50 contribution on the day of the event.
WVVA's Jade Burks and Melinda Zosh are taking the plunge!
