MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) -- The Mercer County Commission is gearing up for the 2020 Census.

Commissioners will meet with representatives next week to form their local 'complete count committee.' The committee will be made up of community members tasked with getting the word out about the census, and making sure the county gets an accurate count.

Leaders will also be on hand to provide information about how to become a census taker.

"We're gonna have - by all estimations - over 1,000 jobs that are gonna be available for people locally," said commissioner Greg Puckett. "What that's gonna do is allow for good stimulus of the economy."

Puckett says Census taker jobs will pay $16.50 per hour plus a mileage rate for personal vehicles.

Census representatives will meet with commissioners and community members Tuesday, January 23 at 10 a.m. in the Mercer County Courthouse.
