Local lawyer running for Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney

Beckley, W.Va. (WVVA) A local lawyer is vying to become Raleigh County's next prosecuting attorney.

Wyoming County-native and Beaver resident Ben Hatfield filed to run this week. Hatfield is a Concord University and Syracuse Law graduate who currently practices law in the areas of personal injury and wrongful death.

He previously served as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney's Office in 2017 and 2018.

"Raleigh County is not viewed as a safe place. People are weary of the time they go to retail environments. They're weary about walking to their car at night or even during the day. I don't want that. I don't want people to feel scared. I came home to West Virginia because this is the place I love."

Hatfield said he considers the next ten months a job interview with the citizens of Raleigh County. His hope is to take ideas gained from the campaign trail into the prosecutor's office.

In his spare time, Hatfield is a youth soccer coach. Together with his wife, a local teacher, the Hatfields have three little girls.
