(Lewisburg) WVVA - Dorie Miller park is getting a boost to its profile after the U.S. Navy announced it will name an aircraft carrier after the World War II veteran that the downtown Lewisburg park is also named after.

Mayor Beverly White of Lewisburg said, "I think the buzz will get out there and more people will come to Lewisburg, and we'll make it a destination."

According to the Navy Times, Dorie Miller was the first African American to receive the Navy Cross for combat valor. Miller was recognized for manning a machine gun on the battleship West Virginia and returning fire against Japanese planes during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
