WELLSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student interrupted his trial to take a plea bargain for a lesser charge.
The Intelligencer reports that former Brooke County teacher Tim Turner interrupted his trial Wednesday pleaded guilty to malicious assault.
That carries a two-year jail sentence and revokes his teaching certificate.
A Brooke County sheriff's deputy testified that the 43-year-old middle school band director brought a student to his house in 2015 and tried to have sex with her.
News outlets have reported that he was initially charged with third-degree sexual abuse, among other counts that would've carried a sentence of up to 20 years.
