New United Way Exec. Dir. lays out goals

Beckley, W.Va. (WVVA) A new leader has taken the reigns at the United Way of Southern West Virginia.

Beckley-native Megan Legursky was recently named the organization's new Executive Director. She is coming home after a decade in Pittsburgh with her husband, former NFL player Doug Legursky. Together, the couple has three children ages seven, four, and two.

For the last several years, Legursky has worked for a community bank in Pittsburgh as Assistance Vice Pres. of Mortgage Lending. While there, she has remained actively engaged in many community organizations, charities, and Church.

"My goals (for the United Way) are to keep this well-oiled machine going strong and build momentum as I can. My goal right now is to hit the 2020 campaign goal. We're getting there and I'm trying to think of different efforts to get us to that finish line."

Some of those initiatives include starting up 'Whitewater Wednesdays' this Summer; a partnership with Heather Johnson and River Expeditions that will include a half day of rafting followed by a reception and live music.

Legursky is also encouraging participation in the organization's new 'Grandfamilies' program to offer support to grandparents who find themselves playing the role of parent again.

To learn more about how you can help or participate, she said to feel free to call the United Way of Southern West Virginia in Beckley at 304-253-2111.
