MERCER COUNTY, W.Va.(WVVA)- A man arrested in 2018 for exposing his genitals inside of a Walmart store could be spending the next five years in prison.
Lancaster Johnson, 55, has entered a guilty plea to the felony third offense of indecent exposure and has been remanded to Southern Regional Jail.
Judge Derek Swope imposed the maximum penalty for this case, which carries 1-5 years in prison.
In 2018, officials say Johnson walked into the Walmart store and started performing a lewd act, alone, in public sight.
"The act was apparently masturbation and exposing his genitals," said Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler. "Johnson had previously been convicted for similar offenses on two separate occasions."
The most recent, third offense for indecent exposure is subject to a felony penalty, resulting in the 1-5 penitentiary sentence. The previous offenses were misdemeanors.
"Although this crime did not have a specific victim, it's very concerning to the courts and Prosecuting Office."
Judge Swope also imposed the maximum period of post conviction supervision, which means Johnson will be supervised for 50 years after completing his prison sentence.
"If he commits any other violation, any other sex crime, that 50 year post supervision can be revoked and he'll serve the rest of his life in a penitentiary."
Johnson was also charged with trespassing which carries no jail time.
