BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital (BARH) offered a free heart healthly lunch for breast cancer patients and survivors on Wednesday. It was held at the Historic Black Knight in Beckley.
One of the goals of the lunch was to provide education regarding some of the complications that can arise with breast cancer treatment, especially when it comes to heart health.
Specialists at the hospital also gave presentations on some of the long-term cardiac complications that could develop.
"Breast cancer is one of those cancers we are able to deal with well -- it has a 90 percent survival rate. But what we are seeing is some of the after effects of these cancers not being dealt with properly," Said Dr. Dheeraj Kodali.
At the BARH Medical Mall on Thursday, the hospital will be offering free heart health screenings to the public. Those screenings will include an EKG, Lipid profile, vitals, stroke, and glucose monitoring.
Registration is from 6 a.m.- 1 p.m. Fasting is advised for best results.
