Shadowing city officials, Student Government Day (Bluefield)

CITY OF BLUEFIELD, W.Va.(WVVA)- The board of directors meeting was conducted by a guest panel filled with students, representing Bluefield High School.

"Student Government Day' gives students an opportunity to shadow city officials while participating in their actual job duties.

The students learned the 'ins and outs' of working inside of the city hall walls, which included shadowing the mayor and city attorney.

The biggest icing on the cake, the students conducted the Tuesday 'Board of Directors,' meeting.

Bluefield High School student Jahiem House shadowed City Attorney Colin Cline and says the job requires a lot of patience and concentration.

"I didn't know [he] did all this stuff because you don't see it all on the outside [looking in]," said House.

Student Ayonna Helm shadowed Bluefield Mayor Ron Martin.

"I felt the pressure," Helm said. "But with Mayor Martin by my side, he gave [me] a lot of confidence."

"The students did great, they did better then we did our first meeting." Mayor Ron Martin
