Neglected dogs, drugs and firearms recovered in McDowell County

McDowell County (WVVA) - A search resulted in the arrest of two men and the recovery of three neglected dogs, according to Chief Deputy James Muncy with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office and troopers with the Welch Detachment of the West Virginia State Police executed a search warrant at a residence in the Havaco area of McDowell County around 5 a.m. Saturday. Officers discovered heroin, firearms, cash and three neglected dogs.

21-year-old Steven Brown was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance schedule I, felony conspiracy, maintaining a dwelling to sell a controlled substance and three counts of animal cruelty.

59-year-old Richard Nemore was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance schedule I, felony conspiracy, maintaining a dwelling to sell a controlled substance and prohibited person/firearm.

Chief Deputy Muncy said the McDowell County Sheriff's Office is working with a local animal rescue to find placement for the dogs.

Brown and Nemore were arraigned before Magistrate Steve Cox Richard. Nemore's bond was set at $36,000. Steven Browns bond was set at $33,000 Both men are out on bond and are currently awaiting trial.
