BLUEFIELD, W.Va (WVVA) - Every Wedneseday, WVVA is helping answer viewers' questions about small business loans, unemployment, and more. Every week, John O'Neal, Executive Director of the Mercer County Development Authority is helping answer questions.
On Tuesday May 19, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced that he had signed an executive order allowing businesses in the "Week 4" phase of the his reopening plan to resume operations. WVVA asked O'Neal what additional businesses are eligible to reopen this week.
"There will be plenty of outdoor recreational business openings starting (Thursday) just in time for the Memorial Day Weekend, and the traditional start of summer," said O'Neal.
"State park campgrounds, the Hatfield McCoy Trail System, outdoor recreation rentals, outdoor motorsport and power sport racing, whitewater rafting, and ziplining all will open," said O'Neal.
WVVA also asked O'Neal about new indoor businesses re-opening this week.
"Many indoor businesses will also resume tomorrow. Tanning beds, indoor dining at restaurants, large specialty retail stores, indoor malls, including the Mercer Mall, and similar facilities will open their doors this weekend," said O'Neal.
"The Governor has also canceled the requirement for out-of-state visitors to West Virginia to self-quarantine for 14 days, which should help jump start many tourism related businesses in our region," said O'Neal.
"As West Virginia is opening up for business, and many people are returning back to work, The Governor encourages everyone to follow the guidelines for sanitation and distancing in his reopening plan," said O'Neal.
