(WVVA) - The USDA has approved a pilot project in Virginia that would allow "SNAP" recipients to order groceries online, as well as have them delivered.
The new service will be available to "SNAP" recipients beginning on Friday, May 29.
"This will help families get access to nutritious food without having to leave their homes," Governor Ralph Northam said. "For families with small children or with members who have underlying health conditions that put them at greater risk, this will help keep them even safer."
Virginia's Department of Social Services is partnering with Amazon and Walmart to make the project a reality.
Northam said that other retailers interested in being part of the project should contact the USDA.
