Overnight chase lands Oak Hill man in jail

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) - A driver in Fayette County last night landed in jail after a brief chase.  Sheriff Mike Fridley released the following information regarding this incident. 

     At about 11:00 PM last night, police were notified of a vehicle on U.S. Route 19 in the Hilltop area that was traveling south in the northbound lanes. While Deputies were responding, a Mount Hope officer intercepted the truck in the area of Elizabeth James Road. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer as it continued towards Glen Jean. After a few moments the officer was able to force the vehicle to stop by the median.

     It was found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.  A certified DRE Deputy conducted field sobriety on the driver and subsequently placed him in custody. 

   Michael Eugene Protka of Oak Hill is charged with Fleeing While DUI, Aggrevated DUI and Reckless Driving.  He will now await court proceedings.
