Driver dead after a crash in Wythe County

A driver of a tractor-trailer has died after its commercial vehicle hit a guardrail and bridge, catching fire around 1 a.m. Sunday morning in Wythe County.

According to Virginia State Police, Trooper R.B. Mullins, the single-vehicle crash involved a tractor-trailer traveling north on I-81 that ran off the left side of the interstate at the 63 mile marker.

The commercial vehicle hit the guardrail and bridge, going over the bridge catching fire. The vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire and its driver died at the scene.

The drivers name hasn't been released at this time.
