Raleigh County to install Blessing Boxes

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) – Raleigh County Prevention Coalition will purchase and install Blessing Boxes throughout Raleigh County in partnership with several community businesses and organizations.

The boxes are filled with basic need items like non-perishable food, personal hygiene products, seasonal needs, and important community resource information.

Their motto is: “Take what you need, Give what you can.”

The first Blessing Box is sponsored by Beckley Pride and located on 3rd Avenue in Uptown Beckley.

"It is a wonderful way we can give back to our community. Beckley Pride would like everyone to know we are more than just an organization that hosts one event a year. We're here to help,” said Christina Baisden with Beckley Pride.

Other blessing boxes will be installed throughout Raleigh County sponsored by Women’s Resource Center, FMRS staff, Good Life Consignment, Mountain State Centers for Independent Living consumers, City Slickers, the United Way of Southern WV, New River Community and Technical College, and New River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship/Computer Chic.

More sponsors are needed for 3 more boxes to be located at Raleigh County Community Action, Stratton Elementary, and Mabscot Elementary.

“This is a great way for our community to connect with each other, give to each other, provide important resource information and show compassion for our neighbors,” said Dee Sizemore, president of the Raleigh County Prevention Coalition.
