Plea agreement reached for former Beckley VA Medical Center doctor

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) A plea deal has been struck between the feds and a former doctor at the Beckley VAMC.

Dr. Jonathan Yates is expected to plead guilty on August 3rd to all eight counts in the indictment for Depriving Veterans of their Civil Rights under the color of the law.

Attorney Stephen New represents 40 former patients of the doctor. While only eight of those clients are listed in the federal complaint, New said the others will be able to offer victim impact statements and make their case at sentencing.

"He'll still have to give up his medical license and agree to never practice again. That also takes care of the Osteopathic board complaints my clients have made."

Yates faces 15-20 years in prison on the charges.
