Mercer returns to yellow on County Alert System; in-person instruction still delayed

MERCER COUNTY (WVVA) -- Mercer County has returned to the yellow category on the County Alert System, according to the WVDHHR Dashboard.

However, the first day of in-person instruction is still delayed.

Per the West Virginia Department of Education's Re-Entry Metric, the color of each county at 9 PM on Saturday determines its activities for the week. Because Mercer County was in the orange, students will not return to the classroom.

If Mercer County remains in the yellow through Saturday, September 12th, in-person instruction could begin as soon as September 14th.

As of Monday, Fayette and Monroe Counties remain in the orange.

Stick with WVVA as we continue to monitor this developing story.
