Justice proposes adding new color to County Alert System

WEST VIRGINIA (WVVA) -- Governor Jim Justice is proposing another change to the County Alert System.

The current County Alert System map and metric, as of 9/14/2020. (via DHHR)

During his Monday COVID-19 press briefing, Justice said the orange category of the metric is 'too wide.'

He is now suggesting that a new color -- Gold -- be added to the map.

Gold would stand between the yellow and orange categories and range from 10 to 15 cases per 100,000 people (on a 7-14 day rolling average).

Counties in the gold category could attend in-person instruction, as well as participate in athletic competitions.

Justice is set to meet with health and education leaders at 5 p.m. to discuss that potential change - as well as other possible tweaks to the metric.

Stick with WVVA as we continue to monitor this developing story.
