BLUEFIELD, WV (WVVA) - Bluefield State College was recently named a top 15 public college in the south and the highest ranked public college in West Virginia, according to the U.S. News and World Reports "Best Colleges."
Dr. Ted Lewis, Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs says the college is honored of the recognition and accredits the success to his supportive faculty and staff, and committed students.
"We were the top school in the region, public or private in terms of the number of classes we have (less than 20 students). We believe that provides intimacy between the students and faculty members. Students get to know their faculty and it's a very small working environment with small college values to be able to serve our students needs and the community," Dr. Lewis explained.
Bluefield State College offers a variety or programs including Nursing, Allied Health programs, Engineer, Criminal Justice, and Education which benefits the economy in the Southern West Virginia community. It is the only non residential four year college in the state system.
